With the advent of technology more and more patients are turning to the internet to get answers about their health and medications. Unfortunately though that also means a rise in patients falsely believing they know all the facts or they are just plain misinformed. That's where Healthshare can play a role in ensuring your patients are as educated as possible when it comes to their prescriptions.
The HealthShare Fact Sheets tool gives you an easy way to view, email, and print hundreds of high quality and up-to-date fact sheets within the Genie software.
Enabling more efficient and effective communication, this tool can strengthen a patient's understanding of their health status and treatment options, leading to improved after-care compliance.
Provide your patients with the right information, in the right way, at the right time.
- Information from trusted healthcare organisations
- Fast and simple functionality for printing or emailing to patients
- Optimised search, through auto prompting and free text search
- Automated documentation for each patient record
Healthshare’s integration with Genie means that these fact sheets can be emailed directly and automatically to the patient from Healthshare’s servers. The patient will receive an email with the relevant fact sheet attached from noreply@healthshare.com.au, not from your own email account or Genie itself.
Once you’re configured to use Healthshare, sending the fact sheets to patients is as easy as ticking a box!
To use Healthshare, you must first be on version 9.0.8 of Genie or above. When you update, Genie automatically connects to our servers and downloads the list of drugs that have fact sheets available. For information on how to update, see the Updates section of the Genie Manual.
You will also need to ensure that Allow sending of Healthshare Fact Sheets when Prescribing is ticked in your File > User Preferences (or those of the user who will be prescribing).
Note: This will be ticked by default when you update to version 9.0.8 if the address in your Practice Preferences is set to Australia.
Finally, you will need to ensure before prescribing that the patient has their state and address correctly set within their Demographics window. This is because the information in some fact sheets may differ between states, so Genie needs to make sure that the patient is receiving the information most relevant to them.
Once you’re on version 9.0.8 and you’ve ensured the above box is ticked, you’re ready to start sending Healthshare fact sheets!
With Healthshare configured, just open the prescribing window by clicking the icon above the patient’s script list (in their Clinical window).
Search for a drug you wish to prescribe, just as you normally would, and then double-click the drug to select it. You’ll see a new checkbox appear toward the bottom of the window.
Note: The checkbox will not appear if you have not ticked 'Allow sending of Healthshare Fact Sheets when Prescribing' in your User Preferences, or if the patient has already been prescribed the selected drug before.
If the drug has a Healthshare fact sheet available, the checkbox will be active, as shown above. If there is no fact sheet for the drug, the box will be inactive, like this:
You can click the (Preview) link to review the contents of a selected fact sheet before you decide to send it. This will open a copy of the fact sheet in your default web browser.
Note: The preview page can sometimes display incorrectly if you are using Safari. If this occurs we recommend using an alternate browser.
The patient’s email will appear in the field next to the checkbox, exactly as it appears in their Demographics window. If this email is incorrect or there is no email entered, you can edit it yourself within this field. If you update the address in this way, Genie will ask you whether you’d like to update the patient’s record to reflect this when you click the Save button.
Once you’ve reviewed the fact sheet and confirmed the patient’s email address, simply tick the Email Healthshare Fact Sheet to this patient checkbox* and you’re good to go! As long as this box is ticked when you prescribe the drug to the patient, Healthshare will automatically email a copy of the fact sheet to the patient.
And that’s it! The patient will receive a fact sheet about the medication you’ve just prescribed them, ensuring that they have all the relevant information about using it. This means fewer contacts and better health outcomes! Win-win!
*Note: The first time you tick this box, Genie will ask you to review and accept the prompt below, to confirm that you understand what information Healthshare will be sending, and how it will be sent. This prompt will appear for each user the first time they tick the box.
