Medicare Online Error 5
Invalid string: the maximum length must be at most X (got Y).
Further processing will be terminated.

When does this error appear?

This error will appear when attempting to create a new Medicare transmission. 

What does this error mean?

This error will show a specific amount of digits - "must be at most X (got Y)". These digits will help you determine what field in the claim is causing the error to appear.

The patient's referral duration
 must be at most 6
The doctor's LSPN
(Location Specific Practice Number)

Once you confirm what field is causing the error, you can resolve the issue as below.

How do I resolve this error?

Patient's referral duration Doctor's LSPN
  1. Open the problem patient's demographics demographics.png window and double-click on the current referral attached to the invoice.
  2. Edit the referral duration to the correct figure (e.g. change '999' to '99' or '120' to '12').
  3. Click Save, then Save again.
  4. Try and transmit the claim once again.
  1. Navigate to File > All User Preferences and double-click on the provider's name in your user list.
  2. Go to the Practice Sites tab and double-click on the site of service attached to the invoice.
  3. Edit the LSPN as required.
  4. Click Save, then Save again.
  5. Try and transmit the claim once again.
Patient's Medicare card number  
  1. Open the problem patient's demographics demographics.png window and enter their Medicare card details.
  2. Click into the Account Holder box to open their account holder and ensure the Medicare card details have automatically copied across.
  3. Click Save, then Save again.
  4. Try and transmit the claim once again.
