If you have set your Genie practice up with My Health Record access via the CSP (Contracted Service Provider) method, then you can upload your specialist (red quill) letters directly to a patient's My Health Record (MHR).
Before you begin
You must have completed the registration and activation steps to have My Health Record communicating with your Genie software. If you have not done this, navigate to our Getting started with My Health Record article to set up your practice.
To upload specialist letters, you need to be logged in as a user that has an active HPI-I (Healthcare Provider Identifier - Individual) in their user preferences (File > User Preferences).
Uploading a letter
To upload a specialist letter from Genie, create a red quill letter for a patient. This patient must have an IHI listed in their demographics. See Retrieving patient IHI from My Health Record for steps on how to do this.
When you open the letter, you will notice a checkbox below the Ready to Send checkbox called Send Copy to MHR. This will be ticked by default unless the patient has "Do not send letters to MHR" ticked in their demographics.
Type your letter as normal. Genie will only attempt to upload the letter to My Health Record once you have ticked either:
- Ready to Send (correspondence being sent via third-party)
- Reviewed / Printed (correspondence being sent via mail/email/fax)
Upon clicking Save, you will notice a progress bar appear as below.
If you were to go back into the letter in due course, you would now see a greyed out checkbox that has changed from Send Copy to MHR to Sent to MHR.
