Genie has made it easy to keep all the relevant information for your bariatric patients in the same place and to report on it. With in built reporting, you can extract information specific to your bariatrics patients.
Bariatric Reports allows you to summarise your patient bariatric data in the following formats:
- Operations Lists
- Graphs
- Written Reports
To access the bariatric reports, go into Open > Bariatric Reports from any window in Genie.
Before you begin
The Bariatric Module is a paid module that is only available in Version 8.2.4 or above of Genie.
If you are interested in the Bariatric Module, please contact our Sales team to organise this. This module is available as an add on cost to the program. Your Genie registration will need to be updated at the time of purchasing. You may be given a new registration code, which can be entered into Genie via File > Register. Alternatively, you can update your registration from within Genie via Special > Update Genie Registration. You will require internet access on this machine to update from the Special menu.
Your practice type must be set to Other Speciality to access the Bariatrics Module.
If you are new to the Bariatrics Module, you may find our Bariatrics Module article helpful to read before you begin your reporting.
The various drop-down menus in the Operations tab allow you to refine your operation list to a particular subset of patients.
To view all operations, ensure each drop-down menu has All selected and the appropriate date ranges have been entered in the Operation Date field.
Alternatively, to reduce the list of operations by certain parameters, you will need to choose the appropriate section from the relevant fields. For example, you may wish to view the patients whose primary procedure was a LAGB-Lapband using the laproscopic approach. In this example, you would need to make the following selections:
- Operation: LAGB-Lapband
- Approach: Laproscopic
- Category: Primary Bariatric Procedure
To access further information about one of these records, right-click on the record within the table. Selecting Edit Operation will open the bariatric operation record. Selecting Edit Patient Info will open this patient's complete bariatric record.
Display Patients by EWL%
To display patients who have reached a certain weight loss percentage enter a value in the %EWL field. The minimum post-operative period is 12 months by default; if you would like to view more recent surgeries, you can modify this value.
To search only operations currently displayed in the list, choose Find in Selection, otherwise choose Find All to perform your query on all bariatric operations.
Your results will be displayed in the operations list.
Click on the Printer button to print the operation list with its current refinements.
The Graphs tab will graph any operations that meet the criteria listed at the top of the bariatric window. These criteria can be refined using the same instructions in the above Operations section.
By default, the Graphs tab will display cumulative BMI change per month.
To view a different graph, drop down the menu that defaults on Change in BMI and make a new selection.
If there are operations that meet the selected criteria, Genie will automatically graph this information.
To save your graph as a picture file, click on the Save Graph button. In the Browse window, select your desired file format from the Save as type drop-down menu. You can also print your graph using the Print Graph option.
The Reports tab displays your bariatric information in a written report format. The criteria at the top of this window can be redefined as explained in the above operations section.
Before printing, any changes you might like to make to the formatting in this document (e.g. fonts, font sizes, spacing etc) can be made using the word processing interface. These changes are not permanent, so you should only put time into this if you are planning on printing the report now.
To print the report, go into File > Print.
Note: Please select the File menu in the word processing area as above, as there is no printer option in the Genie File Menu.
