If you've ever launched Genie only to be welcomed by a User Identification window, you'll know what a confusing start to the day it can be. The following article outlines the process to get around the User Identification window.
Holding down the Shift key while launching Genie can cause this window to come up. It is only one user receiving this window, ensure that they aren't holding down the Shift key or that it isn't stuck.
If Shift isn't being held down, then try the following solutions:
- Manually delete 4D Preferences using the instructions in Deleting 4D Preferences. Ensure that Genie has been quit on this computer before performing these steps.
- Launch Genie Client and immediately hold down the Alt/ Option key on your keyboard. You will receive a Welcome to 4D window. In the Custom tab, manually enter the database name as Genie. Enter the IP address of the server machine, and port number. The IP address can be found on the Genie Server application. Tick the option for "Force Update of Local Resources".
- Log in as the computer's administrator, then launch Genie Client. If Genie Client launches successfully, the other user does not have enough administrative account privileges. In this instance you will need to discuss this with your IT representative or make the user an administrator as well.
