If you need to update your own, or another user's username in Genie, you can do this using the below article steps. While you can easily update your details in File > User Preferences, this will not update your username as this links to multiple records within the Genie database.
Before you begin
You should only change a username in the following instances:
- Incorrect spelling
- Legal name change (marriage / divorce)
- Title change (Associate Professor > Professor)
You should not, under any circumstances, change a username simply so a new user can take over that profile. A new user should always be created.
Changing the username
The execute command to change a username has been purposefully left out of the below steps. To obtain this command, please call Genie support on 1300 889 362.
If you are not comfortable with performing these steps or do not have access to the Genie server machine, you will need to contact your IT provider.
- Take a backup of your current Genie data.
- Quit the Genie Server application (or service) on your server machine - this will also close all instances of Genie Client, so this should be done after hours.
- Open Genie Solo (Single User) on the server machine.
- Log in as normal.
- Navigate to File > Execute Command and enter the command that Genie support provided you with.
If you do not have access to this window, you will need to have your Genie administrator perform these steps. - Click OK and choose the User whose name you wish to change.
- Click OK and enter in the new username.
- Click OK and you will see the following prompt:
If you do not see this prompt, the command did not work successfully. - Cancel out of the execute command window and check to see that the change has been successful (navigate to File > Add or Change User).
- Quit out of Genie Solo, restart the Genie Server and log back into your Genie Client applications.
