In order to keep on top of everything that is happening at your practice, it's important to perform a few daily tasks to ensure everything doesn't pile up at the end of each month. For information on reports to run at the end of each month, see our article on End of Month Tasks.
Before you begin
It's imperative that each user who performs the daily tasks in Genie has a general understanding of what to do and how often the practice is wanting it done. For example, some practices may want to seal their banking at the end of each business day, whereas others may only want to seal their banking at the end of each working week.
At the end of each working day, all patient names in the Appointment Book should appear in blue font to indicate everyone has been billed. As a secondary precaution, you can run Check Missing Invoices to check invoice service dates against patient appointment dates.
- From the Appointment Book, navigate to Appts > Check Missing Invoices and click OK to the prompt;
- Enter the desired date range in the To and From fields;
- Choose either the All or Select radio button. If you choose the Select option, you will then also need to select the provider from the drop-down menu;
- Click OK. The resultant window will list all patients without a current invoice.
Note: You will receive an alert window if there are no missing invoices found as shown below.
The Daily Banking Report is a useful tool to keep track of your incoming financials. You can use this report daily to reconcile or seal your banking.

If your practice deals with Bulk Bill and DVA claims, you may be transmitting these to Medicare at the end of each working day. Transmitting batches each day helps keep the batches smaller and easier to deal with, lest there be exceptions and rejections from Medicare.
It's also a good idea to retrieve any reports and receipt any claims at the end of each day as well. This does not happen automatically and should be performed regularly. When sending off claims directly to Medicare on behalf of the patient, you have the option to send it Now (Real-Time) or Later (Batch). You can set this to default to one of these options by navigating to File > Practice Preferences. In the Miscellaneous tab in your Practice Preferences, use the Run Real Time by Default checkbox to choose the default transmission option.
If you are choosing Later (Batch), you will need to go to the Patient Claims Transmission window to send these off manually. For information on how to create and transmit patient claims, please see our Patient Claims article.
