Within Genie there are several areas that rely on the date and the time. If you have ever noticed dates appearing in American format, your time being out by an hour due to daylight savings or being unable to navigate past the 13th day in your diary, it may be due to time and date settings on your computer being incorrect.
Genie pulls its date and time settings from the computer itself, there are no settings within Genie to change this. Therefore, if you are experiencing the above issues, you will need to change the time and date settings on your computer.
To check date and time settings outside of Genie, please follow the below instructions.
Right click on the clock in the top right corner and select ‘Open Date & Time Preferences’. Once the Date and Time window opens, please click on ‘Open Language & Region’
Click on the Region drop-down menu and ensure that Australia is selected.
From here you can click on the Advanced tab.
Check the short date format. If it appears incorrect, please click on the Dates button and make changes as required. The short date format should appear as DD/MM/YYYY.
Right click on the clock in the right-hand corner of the screen and select Adjust Date/Time.
Once the Date and Time window opens, check the format, the time zone and the Region to ensure you are set to Australia. If you need to change any format settings, please ensure to select ‘Change date and time formats’ at the bottom of the screen.
As with the Mac settings above, the short date format should appear as DD/MM/YYYY.
Please note: if your server computer is located in a different time zone to your practice, you'll need to change this setting within Genie via File > Practice Preferences > ‘My server is hosted in a time zone X hrs ahead’.
Common Problems Caused by Date / Time Settings
While having the wrong date or time settings seems like a minor issue, it can cause some frustrating problems in Genie. Some issues that may be attributed to Date/ Time settings include:
- Sending Bulk Bill/ DVA or ECLIPSE Claims: You may find that you are prompted with errors during the transmission process. You may also receive errors when retrieving reports.
- Errors when navigating through the Appointment Book as the calendar is unable to work with your computer Date/ Time settings
- Incorrect time and date in Genie. Genie relies on your computers clock to figure out what time and day it is for you.
- Imported results may appear with the wrong date and time or no date at all.
