SafeScript alerts clinicians whenever a high-risk medication is being prescribed to a patient. This enables clinicians to make safer decisions when prescribing monitored drugs to a patient. Version 9.1.1 of Genie includes changes that allow it to send these scripts through to the SafeScript system.
All registered practitioners can check SafeScript through a secure web portal at www.safescript.vic.gov.au. This portal can also be accessed when you hand write prescriptions or practise in a hospital.
Note for specialists: If you do not prescribe monitored medicines frequently, the SafeScript portal may provide adequate access. Alternatively, you can integrate SafeScript into your workflow by completing the following steps:
Setting up SafeScript for use through Genie
Check if you have a bar code printed on your prescriptions. If not, ensure you are registered with the Prescription Exchange Service eRx, who can be contacted at 1300 700 921.
Install the latest version of Genie on each of your computers used for prescribing. Installation instructions can be found on our Downloads page.
Ensure all prescribers in the practice have registered for SafeScript so they have access to the system.
Ensure your Practice Manager or IT Administrator has arranged to install the SafeScript Notification App on each of the computers used for prescribing. The SafeScript Notification App is available at the health.vic website.
